At Congal we preserve the wildlife just by letting animals run free in the habitats, we are in charge of having no hunters, furtive fishers, and any activity that endangers animals. The way make possible the sustainability with the wildlife is by Congal tours, above we describe some of the wildlife we see at the Rainforest:

Mammals: Mantled-Howler Monkey (Aluatta palliata) and the White-throated Capuchin (Cebus dapucinus). The Collared Anteater (Tamandua mexicana) it’s a selective alimenticious habits animal. Other mammals who runs in our forest is the Nine-banded Armadillo (Dasypus novemcintus). In some occasions we were able to watch the Tayra (Eira Barbara), and very few the Neotropical River Otter (Lutra Longicaudis) at borders of the lake and around the numerous rivers. The smell of the Striped Hog-nosed Skunk (Conepatus semistriatus) is very strong sometimes around the Congal trails.

The White-nosed Coaties are animals that run in group or herd and also have been seen running alone males. As representative of wild feline we have Puma (Puma concolor), we found excrement and treats. Also the Jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaroundi).

Another great mamals that runs free at the Congal Private Reserve are the Collared peccary (Tayassu tajacu) which tourist have seen them lately. In the family of deers we have the Red Brocket Deer(Mazama Americana).

The Common Opossum(Didelphys marsupials) it’s a night habits mammals family from the American marsupials. Over the ground we have the Agouti(Dasyprocta puntata) which runs lonely or which its raises.

The squirrel are abundant and we count with two different species and also a variety of bats.

Reptiles we have turtles such as Snapping Turtle(Chelydra serpentina) and Red-cheeked Mud Turtle(kinosternon scorpiodes).

The basilisco Emerald Basilisk(Basiliscus plumifrons) is very showy because of it’s brilliant colors. Also the representative Green Iguana and Norops.

One of the most abundant lizard is the Central American Whiptail(Ameira festiva) and the distintive Pug-nosed Anole(Norops capito).

The snake gruoup we have variety of species as : Becquer(Boa Constrictor), la Neotropical Bird Snake (Pseustes poecilonotus), the Tercipelo eater and vipers. One of the most beautiful snakes we have is the Mussurana (Cleia cleia), also a very easy manipulation snake the Blunt-headed snake(Imantodes cenchoa).

One toxic imitador is the Variable False Coral(Scaphiodontophis annulatus). The vipers we find Costa Rican Coral Snake(Micrurus mosquitensis). The colored and diversed faces Eyeash Palm Pitvipier(Bithriechis schlegelili) or Oropel when we find it in the yellow face. The Fer-de-Lance(Bothrops aspes) is a aggressive viper that attacks without reason and responsible for a big percentage of Costa Rica’s snake puncture.

The little Rainforest Hog-nosed Pitviper(Porthidium nasutum) is difficult to discover on the trails because of it camouflaged colors and very abundant in Congal.

Amphibians we have classified a variety of toads,frogs,Caecilians all over Congal area.
